Nancy & Jose Pedro Montecillo
Scholars U.S.A Trip Sponsors
Nonoy snd Nancy were actively involved in the setup, launch, and candidate selection responsibilities for the SLT scholarship program at the Leyte Normal University in Tacloban. Part of the process gave them access to the family and financial background of the applicants. The intimate knowledge of all the applicants’ impoverished familial situations deeply moved the couple. In spite of these challenges, the students excelled academically, desired to earn a college education, and hoped to uplift their families and communities in the future. Nonoy and Nancy quickly recognized these students’ aptitude and the great impact access to higher education could have both to the students and their wider communities. This led the couple to commit themselves as scholarship donors. These students have the dedication, knowledge, and drive to succeed; but none of this is possible without financial resources. Out of 229 applications, 27 were awarded a scholarship from SLT for the 2018 - 2019 school year. Nonoy and Nancy are hoping that YOU will consider joining the SLT benefactors in transforming the lives of more well-deserving, but financially challenged, students and their communities.

“Some people are afraid of generosity. They feel they will be taken advantage of or oppressed. In cultivating generosity, we are only oppressing our greed and attachment. This allows our true nature to come out and become lighter and freer.”
